Insectophobia: How to fight insect fear. Insectophobia is what is called insect fear. This phobia is manifested by fear of panic, panic attacks that occur when a person comes in contact with different insects, or even one of them. Fear of insects can be of a general nature – manifested at the sight of any insect or any particular species – spider, locust, etc.

The reasons why this phobia arises and develops can be divided into objective and imaginary. The first is the fear of insects, caused by something that has happened in the past. The second is the irrational fear that an insect will hit the nose or mouth, penetrate the brain, damage the eyes, lay eggs under the skin, leave a venomous bite, or spawn worms in the abdomen.

It is such fears that force the insectophile to take a strong shock at the sight of them and to do everything possible to minimize contact with them. The latter often leads to the fact that the whole family and even the neighbors of the Insectophobia are subjected to poisoning by various poisons which they spray around their apartment. People with insectophobia spend most of their time on social media. They rarely leave the apartment and keep the windows open to a minimum.

Symptoms manifested by insectophobia

Those who admit that they have insectophobia point out that the appearance of an insect near them causes panic fear, which completely occupies their minds.
This phobia causes the following changes:

  • Strong desire to leave immediately, ran away from the place where the insect had appeared;
  • Muscle tension, especially of the back muscles;
  • The person begins to shake his arms vigorously or demonstrate inappropriate behavior in this situation;
  • Insectophobic actions become uncontrollable, unpredictable;
  • He cannot hear any valid argument during such a panic attack.

How to overcome insectophobia

Psychologists recognize that in a moderate form this phobia (at least for fear of some insects – bees, crows) is characteristic of the vast majority of the world’s population. Therefore, if this fear does not interfere with a normal life, you should not think about treatment. Only acute forms of insect fear should be treated, leading to various mental disorders and illogical behaviors. The most effective way to eliminate the disease is hypnosis, all sessions of which should be accompanied by reinforcing therapeutic conversations.

It is believed that an experienced psychologist can cure the panic fear of insects from the patient’s consciousness, not only completely, but forever.
